Christian Hope Uganda (UK) is a Christian organisation committed to social justice and resolutely opposed to discrimination in society. We are committed to providing support and services on a fair and equitable basis, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, life-style, sex, sexuality, physical/mental disability, offending background or any other factor. No person requiring support or services from Christian Hope Uganda (UK) will be treated less favourably than any other person on any grounds.
2. In encouraging voluntary service, we actively seek to recruit with the right mix of talents, skills and potential, promoting equality for all and welcome applications from a wide range of candidates. We select all candidates based on their skills, qualifications, experience and commitment to the values and purposes of the organisation.
3. As an organisation seeking to deliver support and services within a Christian context, some roles can only be filled by Christians. These include those such as the trustees, providing oversight and leadership to the organisation as well as those functioning in a teaching or training role. The nature of these roles or the context in which they are carried out, and their link to the ethos of the organisation, give rise to a genuine occupational requirement (GOR) for those fulfilling the roles to be Christians. All volunteers in these roles are required to demonstrate a clear personal commitment to the Christian faith. This policy is implemented under Employment and Race Directives issued by the government and ACAS guidance.

4. As an organisation using the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure service to assess applicants’ suitability for positions of trust, the organisation undertakes to comply fully with the DBS Code of Practice and to treat all applicants for positions fairly. It undertakes not to discriminate unfairly against any subject of disclosure on the basis of conviction or other information revealed.
5. As an organisation, we commit to creating an environment free of bullying, harassment, victimisation and unlawful discrimination, promoting dignity and respect for all, and where individual differences and the contribution of all are recognised and valued. All those involved in the organisation should understand that they can be held liable for acts of bullying, harassment, victimisation and unlawful discrimination in the course of their work against any other member of the team or member of the public. We will take seriously any complaints of such abuse in the course of the organisation’s activities. Particularly serious complaints could lead to the removal of the person involved from their role(s) in and involvement with Christian Hope Uganda (UK). Any concerns should be raised initially with the Safeguarding Officer or any of the trustees.
6. We commit to review practices and procedures within the organisation when necessary to ensure fairness and also to update them and the policy to take account of changes in the law. This policy will be reviewed every three years.
